The expansion system uses a pump to return the shortfall of plant water that contracts when water cools, thereby preventing a drop in plant pressure. The system keeps the set pressure constant in heating and cooling installations.
Operating Principle
Stored water in the expansion tank is returned to the plant when the pump starts; the plant is brought to the desired pressure and held constant.
With the integrated data-flow automation system and flow meter on the Pumped Expansion / Pressurization Unit, the lost water quantity is measured and automatic make-up from the mains line is provided.

Expansion Tank (TPG)
The exterior is painted with industrial paint for ambient durability; the interior is painted with anti-corrosion paint to increase corrosion resistance. Plant water is inside the membrane; the outside of the membrane is open to atmosphere and unpressurized. Free air inlet/outlet is provided via an inverted U-pipe mounted on the tank's upper dome.
If the product will be used in a cooling system, this must be stated at the design stage; insulation suitable for cooling systems must be applied to prevent condensation. Flexible connection sets manufactured from stainless steel between the expansion tank and control unit are included as standard.
Pressure Balancing Tank
A dynamic pressure balancing tank is used to absorb pressure differences caused by sudden load changes or by the pressurization pump starting and stopping, and to minimize pressure difference at the otherwise nearly constant plant pressure. The dynamic pressure balancing tank (50, 100, or 200 liters), offered according to system water quantity and operating pressure, is included in the standard delivery scope.

Installation
Pressure sensor, expansion tank, and pressurization-line connection points must be located according to the project schematic. Electrical supply is 380V; MODBUS and MQTT connections should be integrated into the building-automation infrastructure. Minimum 500 mm clearance requirements should be observed.
During commissioning, pressure testing, flow adjustment, temperature control, and automation communication tests must be performed. The Tanpera technical team provides on-site support and training.

Expanding water during heating is transferred to the tank via a motorized valve; during cooling the pump returns stored water to the plant. Lost water is automatically made up from the mains via the integrated flow meter, and plant pressure is held constant to ±0.1 bar precision.
Effective expansion volume reaches 95% on TPG systems versus only ~20% on diaphragm vessels; a tank of approximately 1/5 the volume is sufficient for the same capacity. Because there is no high-pressure gas outside the membrane, air/nitrogen top-up is not required, air diffusion is very low, and periodic pressure-resistance inspection (TS 1203 EN 286-1) is not mandatory. Pressure can be set from the panel to ±0.1 bar precision; automatic air-venting mode separates air from the plant.

It comprises the expansion tank, air-discharge purger, solenoid valve, command and control panel, control unit, pump, flow meter, mains connection port, plant supply/return connection ports, and dynamic pressure balancing tank (50/100/200 L). The control unit is IP54 and houses the solenoid valve, safety valve, check valve, isolation valves, sensors, and 4.3" LCD screen on one platform.
By improving heat transfer it allows pumps to operate at lower head. Holding pressure constant to ±0.1 bar reduces fresh-air ingress; pipes, valves, heating appliances, and pumps are protected from corrosion. Frequent safety relief and short-cycling are prevented, lowering energy consumption and extending equipment life.
During commissioning, pressure setpoints, pump control parameters, the 4 operating modes (Manual, Automatic, Stop, Air Venting), and alarm limits are set from the LCD panel according to the project design. Air/nitrogen top-up and periodic pressure-resistance inspection are not required on TPG systems; maintenance costs are low.
