Frequently Asked Questions
A Recuperator is an industrial heat exchanger in which one fluid flows inside the tubes while the other circulates on the shell side. The tube bundle and shell structure withstand high pressure and temperature; it is widely used in steam condensation and process heating applications.
It delivers reliable performance at high operating pressure and temperature and is preferred for steam, condensate, and aggressive shell-side fluids. In-tube cleaning and individual tube replacement are possible. Although larger than plate heat exchangers, it provides a long-lasting solution under heavy industrial conditions.
Tubes are manufactured from AISI 304/316 stainless steel, carbon steel, or duplex; the shell is carbon steel or stainless steel. Depending on the application, copper-nickel, titanium, or special-alloy tubes may be used. Material selection is based on fluid corrosion and design pressure.
They are used in power plants, refining and petrochemicals, food pasteurization, steam systems, marine, HVAC central plants, and waste-heat recovery projects. Steam condenser, economizer, and recuperator applications belong to this family.
Recovering heat from waste steam, exhaust gas, and process outlets reduces fuel consumption. Stable operation at high temperature differences increases system COP and efficiency in central plants and industrial boiler circuits.
Fluid flow rates, inlet/outlet temperatures, phase condition (steam/condensate), operating pressure, fouling factor, and installation constraints are required. Tanpera provides thermodynamic calculation and material selection together using an ASME/EN approach.
An annual general inspection and pressure test are recommended; in high-fouling applications, chemical or mechanical cleaning of the tube bundle may be required. Anode and corrosion protection should be monitored regularly in seawater applications.
