The Kombox Compressor Waste Heat Recovery System is an integrated heat-recovery system that uses waste heat from air compressors to produce domestic hot water. Heat taken from the compressor cooling circuit or oil circuit is used for boiler or process-water heating.
A significant share of compressor electrical energy is released as heat; recovering this heat reduces natural-gas or electric hot-water costs. Depending on the operating profile, the investment payback period is typically short.
It can be integrated with oil-injected and oil-free screw and reciprocating compressors. Compressor capacity, discharge temperature, and operating profile are considered in sizing.
Space near the compressor, hydraulic connections, and distance to the domestic hot-water consumption point should be planned. A bypass line may be needed for maintenance and when the compressor is offline.
Annual heat-exchanger and filter inspection, plus pump and valve testing, are recommended. Additional filtration may be needed if there is compressor oil carry-over risk.
