Shell & Tube Heat Exchanger
Shell & Tube Heat Exchangers
TANPERA shell & tube heat exchangers can be designed as U-tube or straight-tube units according to the process application. Tube type, material, wall thickness, and tube-to-tubesheet joining method are determined by TANPERA engineers based on fluid temperatures, required pressure drops, and fluid type. U-tube heat exchangers are especially preferred in processes with high temperature differences where exchanger cleaning is important.

Product Variants
Tank Suction Heat Exchanger
TANPERA TGB Series Tank Suction Heat Exchangers are designed to facilitate the transfer of liquids stored at low temperature or that solidify. They heat the liquid before pumping by reducing its viscosity. Widely used in chemical, food, and storage facilities.
Steam Generating Heat Exchanger
TANPERA TGB Series Steam Generating Heat Exchangers produce pure steam using energy sources such as dirty steam, thermal oil, or hot water. They meet the need for clean, reliable steam in hygiene-critical sectors such as food and pharmaceuticals.
Steam Condenser Heat Exchanger
TANPERA TGB Series Steam Condenser Heat Exchangers deliver high performance in hot-water production using the energy of saturated or superheated steam, or in cooling vapor-phase fluids under vacuum. Preferred for energy recovery in industrial plants, particularly power plants.
Frequently Asked Questions
A Shell & Tube Heat Exchanger is an industrial heat exchanger in which one fluid flows inside the tubes and the other circulates on the shell side to transfer heat. The tube bundle and shell structure withstand high pressure and temperature conditions; it is common in steam condensation and process heating applications.
It delivers reliable performance at high operating pressure and temperature; preferred for steam, condensate, and aggressive shell-side fluids. In-tube cleaning and individual tube replacement are possible. Although larger than plate heat exchangers, it provides a long-life solution under heavy industrial conditions.
It is manufactured from copper, carbon steel, stainless steel, titanium, and project-based alloys. Tube type, material, wall thickness, and tubesheet joining method are determined by TANPERA engineers based on fluid temperature, pressure drop, and fluid type.
It is used in power plants, refining and petrochemical, food pasteurization, steam systems, marine, HVAC central units, and waste heat recovery projects. Steam condenser, economizer, and recuperator applications belong to this family.
It recovers heat from waste steam, exhaust gas, and process outlets, reducing fuel consumption. It operates stably at high temperature differences and increases system COP and efficiency in central piping and industrial boiler circuits.
Fluid flow rates, inlet-outlet temperatures, phase condition (steam/condensate), operating pressure, fouling factor, and installation constraints are required. Tanpera provides thermodynamic calculation and material selection together using an ASME/EN approach.
An annual general inspection and pressure test are recommended; in high-fouling applications, chemical or mechanical cleaning of the tube bundle may be required. Anode and corrosion protection should be monitored regularly in seawater applications.
