Economizer

Shell & Tube Heat Exchangers

Recovered heat is typically used to preheat feedwater or process water, reducing fuel consumption.

About the Economizer

Recovered heat is typically used to preheat feedwater or process water, reducing fuel consumption.

Tanpera economizers are manufactured to project requirements with coiled tube bundles and flanged connections.

Efficiency and Fuel Savings

As a practical rule of thumb, every 20 °C drop in flue-gas temperature corresponds to roughly a 1% increase in boiler efficiency.

Therefore economizer size and target outlet temperature are determined by evaluating both energy gain and condensation / acid-gas corrosion risk together.

Condensation and Material Selection

When gas outlet temperature falls below a certain level, acid gases that cause corrosion begin to condense. In standard (non-condensing) applications, flue-gas temperature must not be reduced below this critical threshold.

In that case the economizer must be manufactured from stainless material; otherwise the corrosive effect of condensed water seriously shortens equipment life.

Investment and Incentives

Key Features

  • 3%–15% increase in boiler / plant efficiency via flue-gas heat recovery.
  • Rule of thumb: every 20 °C flue-gas temperature drop ≈ 1% efficiency gain.
  • Coiled tube bundle; project-based capacity and connection design.
  • 50–60 °C and stainless material for condensing natural-gas applications.
  • Typical payback 3–24 months; potential suitability for VAP / EVÇED supports.
  • Fuel savings in boiler, furnace, and power-generation plants.

Installation and Commissioning

During commissioning, leak tests, gas-side pressure drop, water-side flow/temperature adjustment, and verification of outlet gas temperature against the corrosion threshold must be performed. The Tanpera technical team provides on-site support and training.

After-Sales Services

The Tanpera service network provides spare coil / tube-bundle elements, gasket sets, and maintenance throughout the project life.

Our technical team works with project teams for on-site commissioning, operator training, and fault response.

  • Periodic maintenance and fouling / cleaning planning
  • Spare parts and gasket supply
  • Commissioning, training, and on-site technical support
  • Performance checks and operating recommendations

Frequently Asked Questions

It is a heat exchanger that recovers part of the heat from hot flue gases leaving a boiler or furnace before they go to the stack. Recovered heat typically preheats feed or process water, reducing fuel consumption; as the gas inlet–outlet temperature difference grows, the efficiency gain increases.
