Tanpera R&D Centre Presented Its CFD-Based Study on Data Centre Cooling Systems at Thermodynamics 2026

Tanpera’s R&D Centre took part in Thermodynamics 2026, held at Imperial College London from 13 to 15 September 2026, with the study “CFD-Based Design of Buffer Tanks for Data Centers: Enhancing Thermal Stratification”.

Thermal stability, energy efficiency and sustainable performance are critical in data centre cooling systems. The study examined flow distribution, thermal stratification and temperature stability under transient operating conditions in buffer tank designs through CFD analysis.

Modelling carried out with SolidWorks Flow Simulation was validated against experimental data from real operating conditions. Different inlet–outlet configurations and baffle geometries were evaluated, with the aim of stronger thermal stratification and more stable operating conditions in buffer tanks.

The findings show that the optimised design approaches contribute to higher thermal performance in data centre cooling systems and to the development of energy-efficient solutions.

At Tanpera, we are proud to share our R&D work on international platforms and to develop our engineering knowledge through collaboration between academia and industry.

We congratulate Kübra Bulduk-Şahin, Murat Şahin, Elif Akşit and M. Mert Canca on their contribution to this study.
