What is the Flash Steam System?
In steam plants, flash steam is generated due to pressure loss in the returning high pressure and temperature condensate or during the surface blowdown process in steam boilers. This flash steam, which is discharged from condensate tanks open to the atmosphere, increases operating costs by causing loss of energy, water and chemicals. This loss can reach 3% to 20% of the amount of steam produced.
The Flash Steam System provides energy recovery by preventing this loss. Flash steam obtained by the system:
- Feedwater heating in degassers,
- Condensate water heating,
- Cooling with absorption chiller,
- It can be reused in processes such as air preheating or pressurization for plant steam demand.
This increases system-wide efficiency and minimizes steam loss.
Working Principle
